Featuring 2010 Texas State Poet Laureate Karla K. Morton
Coming To Southeast Texas
This Summer!
Due to a family illness, Ms. Morton has rescheduled her May visit for this summer - look for information coming soon on new dates in July or August! Young Audiences of Southeast Texas is excited to host Ms. Karla K. Morton, our 2010 Texas State Poet Laureate, on her “Little Town, Texas” tour, in conjunction with the Texas Historical Commission and Beaumont Main Street. Ms. Morton will be available for bookings in libraries and schools during her upcoming visit to our area, as she presents her unique Texan poetry and inspires a love for writing in children through her aim of making poetry more fun and relevant to today’s youth. Her tour will also center around the “Little Town, Texas” Art, Poetry & Photography Contest for Grades K-12, to culminate in a night of poetry with Karla and an awards ceremony to be held at a location in our area to be determined at a later date this summer.
Contest rules and awards information may be downloaded below – the due date for entries will be during late summer, to be turned in at the YASETX offices at 700 North St., Suite G. If entries are ready before our deadline, give us a call and come drop them by - we are happy to accept them early! We hope you will encourage your teachers and students to be involved in this wonderful opportunity to meet one of our state’s most celebrated poets and to celebrate the rich history of the city of Beaumont through their original work.

Storybook Theatre

Stories Come to Life For Our Youngest Readers!
Storybook Theatre captivates young children in their amazing programs filled with creative voices, music, dance and audience interaction. This duo brings familiar nursery rhymes and children's stories to life, inspiring young imaginations and instilling a love of reading. In "Country Mouse, City Mouse," Storybook Theatre embodies a classic tale as Cousin Elli and Cousin Ida Mae compare city and country life. The differences they find in each other encourage children to understand and even celebrate the differences they see in others. In "Amelia Bedelia," children will laugh as the bumbling Amelia copes with the bumps of life while always keeping a grin on her face!
Give The Gift of the Arts!
Now more than ever, our students need the arts to uplift their spirits and to help inspire them to achieve success in the classroom. Arts-in-education programming provides the reinforcement children need by presenting classroom concepts in a whole new and exciting way.
The joy on a child's face says it all when they see a Young Audiences program - and we need your support to keep our artists in Southeast Texas schools bringing the wonder of learning through the arts to our children! Please consider giving the gift of the arts to our children this year through a donation of any amount, or to give a donation in someone's name as a gift this year! What a perfect present for that teacher or arts lover in your life, or in memoriam of a loved one.
To donate now, you may mail a donation to our address below, or may donate online through Paypal using any credit card at the link below.
